Guyana needs a visa to travel to all Indian citizens. Applications must be submitted prior to leaving India because regular passport holders would not have a visa-free or on-arrival visa (there can be exemptions to diplomatic/official passports, and some special cases). The most widespread types of visas include Tourist Visa, Business Visa, Family Visit Visa, Transit Visa and Student Visa. Applications are to be made at the Guyana High Commission in New Delhi preferably 3-4 weeks before you intend to travel.

Indian travellers will require the following in order to apply a visa to Guyana:

  • Valid Indian passport and a minimum of six months of validity beyond the proposed date of departure and two blank visa pages.
  • Two duly filled visa application forms.
  • Two recent colour passport-size photographs (per size/guidelines)
  • Letter of cover with the purpose and length of visit.
  • Bank statement stamped and signed by your bank that indicates that you have enough money to stay.
  • Verified back or forward flight ticket.
  • Hotel reservation or invitation letter (with a copy of the Guyanese national ID of the host in case of staying with a friend/family)
  • Detailed travel itinerary
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination certificate (compulsory)
  • Travel insurance, which includes health emergency in case of the trip (recommended)
  • Visa fee payment receipt

Additional documents might be needed depending on the visa, including evidence of association in case of family visits, employer or university letters in case of work or study, and a letter of invitation in case of business trips.

  • Passport and document validity - Passport must be valid at least 6 months after date of entry and at least 2 blank pages.
  • Purpose of travel - Tourism, business, family, short-term studies, or transit.
  • Proof of financial capability - Bank statements or evidence of ability to cover the intended stay.
  • Proof of return relationships with India - work, family or property information may be requested.
  • Health - Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory to all travellers of India.

Stays may not be made beyond the allotted time; stay is typically limited to 30 or 90 days depending on visa type, which may be extended in rare cases by Guyanese immigration authorities.

Do Indian nationals require a visa to Guyana?

Yes, Indian passport holders need to acquire a visa prior to travel with some exemption of diplomatic/official passport holders.

How long can one stay on a Guyana visitor visa?

Visitor and tourist visas allow up to 30 days in a single stay, which can be extended in exceptional circumstances through local authorities, business or student visas can be provided with a duration of different durations.

What health certificates are needed?

Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is compulsory because Guyana regulations regarding its public health do not allow traveling without this paper.

How early should I apply?

Make your application three to four weeks before you go to travel, to allow the process to proceed smoothly and in case of delays in processing.

What should I do in case I overstay or do not have the necessary documents on arrival?

Overstaying leads to punishment, potential imprisonment and subsequent travel ban; lack of valid Yellow Fever certificates or documents may lead to refusal of entry.

  • Prepare papers and complete the application forms (obtained on the Guyana High Commission site)
  • Make your application and fee at the Guyana High Commission, New Delhi (or the center of visa processing in your area)
  • Visit a scheduled biometrics appointment and provide originals where necessary.
  • Wait visa processing and get your stamped passport on approval; look at details and then travel.
  • Prepare all originals and visa documents in advance to Guyanese border checks on coming in.
  • Present Yellow Fever certificate, gambling ticket and evidence of finances at the immigration; expect the standard interrogatives about your visit.
